BUILDING SUSTAINABLE NETWORKS: A Learning Circle

With the challenges of leadership development comes the challenge of extending and sustaining our efforts in connecting leaders and creating real change. As the culmination of a series of conversations and learning exchanges hosted by the Leadership Learning Community, a day-long learning laboratory on building sustainable networks for leadership development was held on December 8, 2006. Facilitated by Odin Zackman, who has been engaged with LLC over the past few years in exploring collaboration and network creation, this forum provided an opportunity for practitioners, funders, scholars, consultants and leadership program participants to continue learning about creating ongoing engagement in leadership for social change.

Some of the questions we have been addressing include:

  • What are current successful and innovative practices that sustain connection and action among leadership program participants beyond their program experience?
  • What actions and strategies are diminishing barriers and cultivating collaboration among leadership development programs and their participants?
  • How can we learn about and extend the impact of collaborative networks on social change efforts regionally and nationally?
  • What are structures and practices that can help to foster collaborative efforts and link activities, resources and networks?

We encourage your participation in this conversation and hope that you will be able to attend Creating Space VIII (the Leadership Learning Community's annual meeting), bringing your unique experience and your own questions.

The knowledge generated by this group will be compiled periodically in “learning and practices” pieces with the next one due out in early 2007. These will be circulated throughout LLC and made available to the leadership development community more broadly.
